Racing Cars at School… Suggestion for Lubricant?
Okay, at school, me and some of my friends have been racing some cars for 8th grade science physics class. So far we have tested on Mass, and Aerodynamics. The third race is going to be on friction. The thing i am wondering about is what to use for a lubricant?
Some of my suggestions were:
Handsanitizer
Ranch Dressing
Soap
Oil
My question is do you have any suggestions on what works best on a wooden toy car
that weighs about 200 grams? So far me and my friends have been testing on other student’s cars and lets just say we weren’t the fastest…. as in near last… Suggestions….?
Um… well… thing is im not looking for Powdered Granite… tried that at school so far and didn’t work at school much at all… (Its what I’ve been using…)

Google “Pinewood Derby” and you’ll find all kinds of hints and tips.
A Pinewood Derby car weighs 5 oz., or about 141 grams.
Hint: The lubricant you’re looking for starts with a “G”.
It’s a type of powder. Use it sparingly to prevent caking.

P.S. – Make absolutely certain that your axles are highly polished.
I did this with my Pinewood Derby car by taking the axles, (nails)
and spinning them with a drill, using a small file, emory cloth, then
progressively finer steel wool to make them as smooth as silk.
Clean with rubbing alcohol then apply just a touch of GRAPHITE, (not granite).
Be certain that all wheels track in an absolute straight line.
You can test this by rolling your car down a long board.
