I am getting back into shape which means I will be doing a lot of 5K’s,10k’s, 1/2 marathons and full ones.?
Has anyone tried “Bloks”..?they are suppose to keep you from being dehydrated while running. Do you know of anything I can store with me while I run to sustain my hydration and energy?
The things like Clif Shot Bloks are essentially nutritionally the same as the gels, sports beans, etc. out there. In essence, they’re like a sport drink but without the water, and that’s why it’s necessary to consume them with water.
They do not keep you from getting dehydrated. They’re for fueling and replacing electrolytes. There are things like fig newtons you can consume too that will do more or less the same thing. You really don’t need to worry about things like bloks and gels until you’re doing runs in the double digits like half and full marathons.
If you want to sustain your hydration, you’re going to need liquid somehow. If you’re running races like that, it’s on the course most of the time. If you’re training, you can run from home, or leave it in your car, or carry a fuel belt, etc.
Anyway, the bloks won’t keep you from getting dehydrated.
I’d establish a base running routine first and figure out if you need to carry something with you, carry a waist pack, etc. For training purposes, people usually just go from home and keep stuff there or have a car with them when they run elsewhere.
